Spring training season is here and it is time to get outside and run. From my experience, two important objectives should be met when it comes to your footwear. One, you should seek the advice of an expert to make sure you are running in shoes that fit well, are designed for your intended use (Road, trail, etc.), and match your foot profile ( Pronation, Supination, neutral, etc.). Two, make sure you are within the life cycle of your shoes. By rule of thumb, you should be buying new shoes every 350 to 500 miles of use. I need to replace my shoes sooner because of my foot issues. My flat, narrow feet pronate heavily thus causing uneven wear. Even with orthotics and stability shoes to counter act my issues, I still need to replace my shoes earlier than the above recommendation. Please check out this link for some great advice from Dr. Sanjay Gupta, http://tips.blogs.cnn.com/2009/04/03/choose-the-right-shoes-for-spring-training/. Another real cool program everybody needs to check out is the Nike Reuse A Shoe initiative, http://www.nikereuseashoe.com/. Give your old shoes to Nike, and they recycle them into playground materials, etc.
